Picked up a 2007 Kawasaki ultra 250x
Hi Guys, So I picked up this clean 2007 Kawasaki ultra with 56hrs for 500$
I just threw out a number and the guy took it.
He had it at 2 shops and they both gave him the run around.
They claim the engine has 170 psi per hole, but said the pressure test failed by not holding air.
I did a comp test and came up with these numbers, 140,150,150,140
Ski runs and will plan but not go above 40mph with the (fast key).
I am new to this ski and have read some pretty crappy reviews. Either way I figured Im only
in 500$
Thanks,
Jason

The biggest concern is that the jet pump hasn't been upgraded and has pushed against the end of the crankshaft, which would destroy the crank, case halves, rods and what-not. There are other threads and a video on how to check for crankshaft movement. Do this before you do anything else.

So I did a search on the procedure to check for in play on the crank. I went through almost every sticky note that I could find. Does anyone know where it's located?

So I checked the end play and it moves about 1/16th of an inch, The owner also said the prop was changed out when he dropped it off. I will get the details on that.
I started it yesterday and seems to be loading up/ running rich. I just checked the oil level and its all the way up to the (L) on the cool side!
That is over a half inch from were it should be.Last edited by gunner12; 10-06-2020 at 08:23 AM.

Other than the Pump Bearings (I would not ride this Ski until you upgrade the Pump Bearing system), your biggest issue will be rising Oil levels due to gas contamination finding its way into the oil. On my 2007 Ultra, I was changing the Oil every 10 hrs . . . or even less if I was pushing the Ski.
But like you say, for $500 this is a "no lose" deal any way you slice it.
Upgrade those Pump Bearings / Pump Bearing area! You've been warned! JB

A 1/16" sounds like quite a bit to me, but I really don't know what the spec is on it. I would use a dial indicator to get a good measurement on it before I condemned it.
You might shoot a PM to sirbreaksalot or Smokeysevin, I bet they would know.
