    2020 RXTX Oil grade

I know there's a lot of oil threads and I have read through a bunch of them.

The manual recommends 5W-40 but has anyone been using 10W-40 as what was recommended in older year skis?

    What would be the downsides?

Reason why I'm asking is I have a bunch of gallons of Castrol actevo 10W-40

There are technical requirements for the oil in a supercharged SeaDoo motor beyond viscosity.

Perhaps use the extra oil you have on hand in some other engine, or sell it, and use the recommended oil in your Seadoo.

    • JASO MA-2 is reccommended for wet clutch setups (Sea-Doo).

By technical requirements do you mean just 5W-40 versus the 10W-40 that I have laying around? Or are you referring to Sea-Doo branded oil as I've read in other threads rotella t6 5w40 is fine.

Rotella T6 5w40 is fine for supercharged and non supercharged engines..

You can use the 10W40 if its Jaso MA MA2 rated for supercharged or non supercharged.

Just don't start the engine with 10w40 in it at temperatures below 10C

The manual also states that 10W40 motorcycle oil is recommended if XPS is not available. Not a thing wrong with the Actevo in your application. I have no idea why BRP would actually change the recommended weight because there are 5W40 motorcycle oils out there. It is one of my complaints with BRP. So many times, you can find conflicting info in the manual. Its the left hand right hand thing with them.

Does it say 10w-40 in the 2020 manual? I didn't see it. I will look again

I used Actevo 10-40 for the past 10 years with absolutely no issue. I still service my ski I sold 3 years ago with it also.

I don't remember if its the 2018 service manual or the owner's manual that specifically states 10W40 motorcycle oil as the alternative to 5W40 XPS. There are times that they conflict as I mentioned above. In the ambient temps that PWC are operated in 10W is not a concern.

Thanks, besides the hypothetical warranty issue is there any issue with rotella t6 5w-40 in the 2020 RXT 300?

Warranty will be expired anyways next summer so not concerned in that aspect.
