    1200 to a 1500

    I know this topics more than likely has been covered.
    I done some searches with limited success.

    I have a 06. STX12F with the piston killing ecm.
    #4 is down from the other 3. 125psi. I checked the valve lash and it is within specs per the service manual.

    If I have to pull the motor and change a piston and buy the ecm Kawasaki used to fix this issue I was wondering has anyone changed enough parts to turn the 12 into a 15?

    Parts I know are different.
    Cams
    Intake
    Throttle Body
    crank rods and pistons.
    impeller
    ecm

    I have read something about a oil temp sensor being different.
    At the time I read about this I was look for info on something else and don’t remember the details about that. Can this be done?

    I confirmed it this afternoon. Ring lands broke on cylinders 1 and 4. They share the same coil. Would be interesting to know if the timing is differing on those 2 cylinders.

    My options.
    Put 12f pistons in it, change the ecm and ride.
    Put ZX12R pistons in it. They are 12.2:1 vs 11:2.1 and very cheap used.
    Or go full on 1500 convention?
    This is a very clean ski and I got it super cheap.
    I don’t mind spending $2000 on the motor to make it a 1500.

    What would you guys do?

    I wouldn't run anything other than stock unless you are changing the ecu to something like a standalone. The rods on a 12f are not the best, they are thinner and longer than a 15f, they are also not the same as zx12r rods.

    You need cams, pistons, rods, crank, intake manifold, cylinders, wiring harness, and ecu to swap it to a 15f. You will also need a new impeller.

    If you swap the busted pistons out, I can flash the ecu to an older safe tune.

    Sean, why do I need cylinders and a wiring harness to do the 15 swap?
    I’m aware of crank rods pistons intake cams and ecu.

    I bought it with a hurt motor. I’ll check the hr’s and post what’s on the ski.

    The 12f cylinders have a different taper lenght and a different water jacket height. The 12f (at least the early model ones) only have one engine temp sensor while the 15f has 2.

    I do remember reading about a extra sensor. Can you elaborate on the sensor? If I can add a couple of pins to the ecu plug and buy the connector for the sensor I will just add that to the harness.

    I think you might be able to just run the sensor wire if you can get the ecu pins for it. The connector side is a sumitomo mt90 if my memory is correct.
