Yep your right. The black is full synthetic and the silver is conventional. I've run both and don't see any advantages to running the synthetic. I do like to add a bit of pro-long to it every 3 or 4 changes though. That stuff has an amazing effect on the oil film strength.

I’m a Jeeper and run it in my stroker and modified engines all the time so I’ve been adding it to my skis for years now too. Great for flat tappet cams also. Here is some neat specs: http://jeepm62superchargerkit.blogsp...e-oil.html?m=1

I recently stumbled across this blog while researching the need for zinc additives for air cooled flat tappet engines. If you search for 'Valvoline" (has to be capitalized) with a f3 search or using the search box at the bottom of the blog you can find the discussion on the specific oil or most any oil you are asking about. This blog also discusses "Prolong" and other additives.

It is a crappy website but has loads of analytical information from an independent credentialed professional who does not appear to have a financial incentive in promoting a certain product. He is a self-described gear head. It is a long read but really opened my eyes to what makes a good oil and why additives made not be a good idea.

I suppose if it helps with those F%^#$@ crappy rocker arms they had on the early, and likely still current Pentastar engines it should help with flat tappets.

Ive never run any of those newer engines. I build straight 6 based engines. 4.0 and 258’s.
