2002 Kawasaki 1100 STX DI Sputters, Pops/Backfires when trying to start. DOESNT START

Engine not starting. EMM was just rebuilt. Fuel pump working.

Replaced the sparkplugs with NGK PZFR7G-G. Prior plugs seem to have some black carbon on them

When trying to start it cranks, sputters and backfires, maybe better term is that it pops, but doesn't start.

    Battery checks okay

    I took an ohm reading from the stator I got .5 .5 .3 .3 .3

I purchased this as a project. It didn't start when I bought it. Prior owner just had the EMM rebuilt. He said when he put it back in he was able to get the ski started for about 15 seconds. The fuel pump wasn't working when I bought it. I got the pump going and hoped that would've fixed it but it didn't.

Ask one of the moderators to move this to the 2-stroke section. You'll get more responses.

I spoke to the tech today at Ficht EMM Repair. He stated it was working when it left. He had me do the ohm test on the stator because I didn't have a spark at the time. After I got it to spark I told him that it was back firing when I was trying to start but still wouldn't start he told me that backfiring is bad in a text but didn't elaborate.

    btw compression tested fine

Backfiring with a Ficht engine almost always means the EMM needs repair.

Do not continue to attempt to start the engine. Another backfire could rip the plastic resonators apart.

I spoke to the guy at FICHT EMM REPAIR. He said to send the EMM back to him again. He thinks some of the solder didn't stick due to some of the gel residue still being on the board.
