    2000 GP1200R Rebuild

Its been about 8 years since I have been active on the forum, sold my 99 GP1200 back in 2009 that I built with your help http://greenhulk.net/forums/showthread.php?t=15090 and now that the family is growing up its time to build another! This time I picked up a 2000 GP1200R, rear cylinder failed and its been sitting for about 3 years but other than that looks pretty decent. Hour meter shows 229, it needs a good cleaning but overall not to bad for a 20 year old ski!!

The ski already has a Riva intake grate, ride plate and D-plate. I plan to do a full engine teardown, check the crank, new seals, gaskets, rebuild the carbs, etc. I need to get a used/new cylinder to replace the damaged one and then 3 new pistons. I also want to install Wave Eater Clips on the power valves and will probably convert it to premix. I might put on an Riva head if I can find one but thats the extent of the mods for now as I want this machine to be a reliable ski that we can have fun on the water with.

    Questions:
-What type of pistons do you recommend?
-What brand of gaskets and seals?
-I see the front cylinder has very slight piston scuffs, I can barely feel them with my finger nail, should I have that cylinder honed or should I replace it as well?
-What other reliability mods should I do?

Nice ski dude!!! This is similar to our 01 1200R. We switched to premix, installed waveater clips and couplers, R&D intake grate and ride plate, holeshot kit, bilge pump and dual fed the carbs. After starting the ski on the trailer it ran fine. Once we put it in the water it idle at 3000 and wouldn't come down. I think we loosened up some crud and it got into the carbs. now we have the rack off and are waiting on rebuild kits a some Proks.

Bilge is a good call as well. I have been doing some reading on the carbs and dual feed / using a restrictor in the return line. It sounds like this is on the must do list to provide some backup as well. Did you setup your dual feed like this diagram?

Did you use a return line restrictor like this? https://rivaracing.com/i-17283646-ri...estrictor.html

Here’s an alternative to a $15 filter. $5 at Pepboys

Perfect! Did you change your jetting or N/S at all?

We will be keeping the stock jetting.... going to a 1.5 N/S and 80 gram spring. Setting the lows out 1 turn and the highs as follows..... M 1 3/8 C 1 3/8 P 1 1/2

Sounds like a good plan, I want to put on Flame Arrestors and maybe mill the head or get a slightly higher compression Riva head. Planning to go 1.5 N/S, 125 Main, 110 Pilot and 95g spring as per the other posts on this forum this seems to be a good setup.

Anyone have any recommendations for a aftermarket head vs milling the stock head? Sounds like the cost might be similar, I would like to get an o-ring head so I can easily check the piston wash for the first bit.
