Appreciate the advice! I tore it down and hit the base gaskets and pv covers with 3bond. Hoping the next pressure test will be tight.

I have to comment on the copper spray... years ago Fercho told me never to use it on 2 strokes and I just took it as his personal opinion, then years later I tore into a SBT motor someone patched and used copper coat... all the small steam holes in the exhaust gaskets were plugged up with that stuff

Thats good to know, I have no experience with the copper spray.

I can believe that, SBT just goes out of their way to use horrific assembly practices. I just took a 951 Di apart and there is goop everywhere. It looks like they use the brush on stuff, which is kind of like contact cement with copper dust in it. I use the spray which is more like copper paint, it goes on very thin. I've been using it for years with no issues. In fact, on some engines like the Yamaha 1200 & 800, I drill the rivets out of the new 3 layer metal head gasket and remove the center piece. Then I spray on a light coat on the remaining 2 and put the head on. It bumps up the compression just a little bit. Seems to help the off idle response a bit without modifying anything or ill effects. I'll also do this on a 951 if the machine has other performance type mods.

Well good news the engine is now tight! Held 6psi with no loss for 6 minutes, after 30 mins it was at 5.6psi, then at an hour 5.25psi.
Next up a compression test then I will be dropping it back in the hull.

I did put threebond around the outer seal lips as I wanted to make sure they were sealed tight. What does the rest of this article show?
