What kind of top speed can one expect from a GP1800R HO?

Just curious. Hoping to add another 4 stroke to my garage next year.

Just curious what kind of top speeds are normal for the 2020 GP 1800R HO or the FX HO.

Secondly, can something like the mapx tuner be used on one of these naturally aspirated skis and net any additional speed and power?

Stock most seem to be between 62-65 MPH, with some minor mods 65-68 MPH and some have managed upwards of 69 MPH from what I have read on this forum over the years. The numbers above include 2015-2019 VXR:s and are mainly not with a tune. I was looking into mapx and impeller and was told around 68-70 MPH from Dean’s, but the main gain would be in the acceleration. To me it seems if you are looking for a 70+ MPH ski, there is no was around getting a SVHO, on a HO the cost vs gain just seems too high. With a SVHO 70 MPH is more or less the starting point (or 69 MPH)...

Probably right. I was looking to see if I could get some of the same speeds out a naturally aspirated ski since I’m certain I would have better overall long term reliability as well as the fuel economy to ride longer and further without refueling. I already have 2 skis that run 68 to 69 mph. They both will suck an oil well dry if I run wide open for long. Just trying to get my mind right on what’s gonna work best for me. What kind of mods are best for the 1.8 liter ho motor?

To run 70+ on a ho motor you will have to do just about everything. Much better off getting a svho and something as simple as a scom or speed limiter removal in the tune and that will put you at 75. I'm sure i've spent double plus some in parts and many hours instead of just purchasing the svho from the beginning for not even 2k more. Then I went and bought a Svho a year later anyway.

Don’t you have to upgrade some components on the engine to make turning those additional revs safe for the engine, supercharger, etc?

Also, wasn’t looking to run 70+. Was looking for 67-69mph. Just to keep up with my stock FX SVHO and my mildly modded 2003 GP 1300R. They run about 69 on a good day. Seems to give me enough of an adrenalin rush.

Avoid the FXHO Cruiser if you want 70+... mines barely pushing 61-62 with ribbon delete and intake. Waiting patiently for ride plate.... Honestly hoping for 65 consistently. I do value the reliability of N/A.. at least I hope it is.....

My advice is to first choose the hull that makes sense for the water conditions you will be riding in and how you will be using the machine.

Carrying passengers often, FX hull.

Looking for a less harsh ride when the water is not smooth, FX hull

Towing people, FX hull

Ride solo most of the time and want a playful hull, GP1800

Want to go fast and have premium octane fuel available, SVHO engine.

Depends on how much reliability you ‘need’. We have two 2017 GP1800 SVHO, each with about 250 engine hours.

We ride a mixture of moderately rough and smooth water, our typical cruise speed is 45-65mph. We tend to travel long distances, a typical day will accumulate 4-6 running hours.

Only mechanical issue has been the replacement of one SVHO supercharger clutch at 222 hours. Took a couple of hours to do the change, then it was ready for the water again. The other SVHO engine is still running the original factory clutch.
