    Gelcoat ‘Gash’ Repair

I’ve recently picked up a 2014 FX Cruiser HO. It has a small gelcoat gash that I’d like to get fixed. I have attached a picture. Do you have any recommendations for self repair or do I need to go to the marina. Also, I need some touch up paint. Where is the best place to buy paint?

Your craft is not gel coat. It has base coat and clear coat just like a car. Someone will have to fill and sand the area then repaint it. Any body shop can do that for you.

Do I see horizontal cracks in the hull surface below the gash area?

Regarding paint, the Yamaha recommended Colorite spray paint is rather poor quality. It does 'work' and match but it takes a bunch of coats to get coverage. Just goes on thinly so the underlying hull material shows through.

A friend found much better results by getting a custom paint color matched spray can from an automotive paint supplier. Better paint, color match was good, and only a couple of coats to get solid color. Only trick is getting a piece of the original hull color to the paint matching place.
