    2020 FX SVHO v 2020 GP1800R Performance

I recently bought a 2020 Yamaha FX SVHO and my friend got the 2020 GP1800R. We ran the engines in for a couple of hours and then started testing our new machines. I expected the GP1800R to be faster accelerating than my FX, but for them to have identical top speeds. To my dismay my FX seems to be at least about 5mph slower than the GP1800R. Any ideas why this would be the case when both are meant to be limited to the same speed? Both waverunners are brand new and have no modifications at all.

What GPS speed is each machine running?

    What RPM?

    Both are TOTALLY stock?

My FX was 70mph, the GP hit a max of 83mph. Not sure how accurate that is, but it's a significant difference. Not sure about the RPM at all, sorry. My FX is totally stock and so is the GP, although I'm suspecting otherwise. Is it possible that the limiter was set differently on a stock GP1800R?

GP1800R is not going to be moving well above 70mph GPS without (significant) modifcations.

IIRC the speed is electronically limited (factory ECU tune) to about 68mph after a couple of seconds above.

Also the engine RPM and power are limited with the factory stock tune. And the stock impeller and engine configuration.

Sounds like you have been told a story

BTW, the speedometer on the 2019-2020 FX is, apparently, a complete fabrication. There is no actual speed measuring device, the speed displayed is an estimate based on engine RPM and some guesswork.

    Thanks for responding guys.

Is it possible that some models shipping to Europe or elsewhere wouldn't have the limit requested by the US Coast Guard?

Even without a limit they aren't coming close to that speed. I think someone is playing you.

With that type of speed difference, likely has a maptuner X tune set to 8k that he's not telling you.
