    MSX140 2004 Wont start. Clunks

    Hi Guys,

I recently bought a 2004 MSX140 210hrs, Apparently it has been sitting around for about 4years and was running fine before that. It has ignition and all dash works. When i try to start it clunks, i feel its not the starter as it clunks pretty hard and tries to rocks the engine, hopefully the engine is not seized? What else could it potentially be? besides this problem what would be recommended to do to a ski that has been sitting around for this long? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Cheers Baydos.

Greetings! Sounds like your wear ring has swelled down onto the impeller. Where do you live?

Yeah thought so, after doing a bit of research i have come to similar conclusion. I'm from the Byron Bay on the North coast of NSW Australia.

Ditto Salty Dog on the wear ring swelling---especially if it has been utilized in salt water.

As to other things, at the top of your list, reinforce the fuel pressure regulaor. See this thread.

Next, the through hull bearing & seals should be replaced every 100 hours. They like to fail shortly thereafter.

As a general go through, start reading here.

I have removed the jet from housing but as stated the shaft is still in place and i noticed a special tool is needed to remove. i was curious if to know if it was the jet stopping the motor turning over so i took spark plugs leads off and just hit it quickly to see if it was free but it didn't seem to be. I'm guessing that is bad news? Is there anything else that it could be besides the motor being seized? Thanks.

That’s not what we wanted to hear...

however! it could still be the Thru-hull bearing carrier seized and holding the driveshaft. Undo the 4-bolts in the hull and see if you can identify what is stuck...motor or THB carrier.

I'm afraid to say that it's not looking good. The starter would not normally be engaged unless the bendix is wadded up. Best guess is either wadded up flywheel/stator, or seized crank.
