1999 X45 to Keihin Carbs and 1050 Red Pipe Conversion

    Hey guys

I'm helping a friend with his ski. It is a 1999 X45 with the 1200 and the Bing Carbs. Before we began we checked compression and pulled 125 on all three cylinders.

Did a little searching across the interwebs and found the recommendation to change to the Keihin CDK II Carbs and the Red Pipe/Waterbox from a 1050. We gathered all the parts and are ready to start assembly. We have the Keihin Carbs, Red Pipe from a 1050, waterbox to match, gaskets, and all associated hardware.

Picked up some carb rebuild kits and ready to get after those.

The main question I have is, does anyone have a recommendation for what the carbs should be jetted at? I am familiar with Mikuni jetting but have never dealt with the CDK II carbs. I have found various opinions across the web about trying to target jetting from a Pro 1200, but can't find concrete information on exactly what that jetting was in terms of the pilot, main and mid jet sizes.

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

    Jeremy

    Welcome to Greenhulk.
Pro1200 is same as SLX w/1200.
Mrgp1800 did the conversion along time ago, old post might have good direction.

    2000 pro1200 used highs, 140m,142c,135pto
    Mid 42
    Low 70
Low screws 1 1/8 turns out.

    Thanks for the input.

The PTO carb i took apart had a 138 main, 50 mid, 68 low.

Can i run this jetting? Otherwise i'll just order new jets. My guess is it would be a little fat in the mid range.

The only carbs with 50 mid were the 2001/02 genesis with log pipe. But should be 132m, 138c, 142pto. Look over the carbs really well, replace that mag jet. It will probably gurgle cold 3000-3600 rpm, because of 50 mids. The lean lows shouldnt hurt, for test in ng, the accell pump will keep from bogging.

What's a good source for Keihin Jets? I'd like OEM if possible, or a good quality aftermarket if that's what you guys are running.

    Thanks again

Whoever you use for Mikuni parts, should carry Keihin. Sudco is also a Keihin compony.

I think I ordered from Atlantic jet sports.

Not sure at what elevation you are at but I'm around 800ft above sea level. This is what my Keihin carbs are set at in my X45...and I have the red exhaust pipe as well.
    Lows - 65
    Mids - 40

    Mains:
    mag - 140 1 1/4 turns out
    cen - 142 1 3/8 turns out
    pto - 135 1 1/4 turns out

I used the same jetting as the virage tx. It’s the same setup you’re trying to build

We are about 1100 feet above sea level here. It's amazing to me how many different jetting combinations were used by Polaris. I will give the jetting from post #7 a try since it's close to our elevation

The carbs I have here have a 2.0 seat size, with an accelerator pump. The springs that came out of them measure about 7.75mm long. The kit i purchased comes with this spring, what should the popoff be? I found a chart online with the Keihin Popoff pressures but it just says N/A for the 2.0 seat, a mid jet, and the 7.75mm spring. I'm guessing it's pretty low like 11psi - is that the popoff I want for the jetting combination listed below:

    65 Lows
    40 Mids
    140 Mag
    142 Cen
    135 PTO

This is the chart I found - am I reading the chart wrong?
