The name that immediately came to mind is Art Arfons. And then Craig Breedlove. But surely their records have been broken by now.

It has to be Connected to earth, Or it can't be a LAND Speed Record.
I't's not Electricity, or power lines. YOU could ride in it. But it would kill you from the G Force. With out a proper suit.
Hint ...... WWII and the 1940's.

Sounds like a rail guided rocket sled.

Everything I mentioned is a wheeled vehicle: 2 wheels, 3 wheels, 4 wheels or more....gas, diesel, alcohol, steam, jet, or rocket.

    My guess is:

Yes i was station there in 1979. Before most were born.....lol
Holloman Air Force Base New Mexico......Mach10 sled. longest fastest in the whole World., NOT even Russia has such a thing. That travels that long in distance or as old. Watch a YOU tube Video. It uses Helium to cool the tracks, Or it would melt the metal from the heat of friction.

Hint...........WW II .......They tested the Atomic bomb at the same place the sled track is.
White Sands Missile Range. I have walked the sands back in 1979. And seen the place where Atomic Bomb was tested.
