xlt1200 throwing wtemp code even when cold

ski has a dplate and resistor. here recently when i would go to start it up at the beginning of the day it would show a wtemp alarm and then would go right away and start and run fine. this past weekend when i was riding the ski shutdown and says wtemp alarm and will not crank back up. the ski was cold and was not running hot. even after i let it sit overnight it still shows wtemp alarm and will turn over but not crank due to im assuming not getting spark. i checked the resistor and it is showing 1000ohm. anyone have any suggestions on where to look or what to check to solve this problem. ski is a 2003 xlt1200.

Possibly closely exam the connector itself where the resistor plugs in? If you use a small pick tool you can actually remove the connectors out of the oem plug and clean the contacts.
My thought is it's possible the resistor is good but the cdi isn't seeing the proper resistance due to a corroded connection point. Just an idea.

Sometimes they'll do that. I've upped the resistor to 15-1700 ohm and they'll quit.
