    Ultra 300LX PTO Removal

What techniques are you using to remove the PTO coupler off the engine on a 300/310 motor? Has anyone bought and used the $180 tool, 57001-1764? Hard to see from the pic what it looks like and how it works.

I don't want to use a chain wrench on the 300 coupler as it will mar the supercharger belt grooves.

With the 12F/15Fs I've used a chain wrench, and most recently made a coupler removal tool from an old PTO coupler and an impact wrench to pop it off. Can re-torque with a torque wrench. Works great.

Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

That looks like a plan! You can extend the life of your tool by welding an impact socket to the plate.

If the drive coupling is secured with Loctite, it may help to warm it with a torch before trying to remove it.

Thanks for the quick response, Steve. Good tip on welding a socket--the hole on that old Yamaha coupler was messed up long ago (it's about 10 yrs old), but still seems to work.

I'll need to find a coupler for the 300/310 to make the tool.

Is your coupler bad? If not just take the shaft and it off at once.

Coupler is not bad; you suggest I just use an impact to pull the shaft and coupler together. Makes sense.

Yea for sure do it that way. You'll need a good compressor (turn up the psi 140++) and "big" air impact gun, probably have to bang away at it for a minute but itll come off
