Did I just damage my pump housing!?!?

I was rebuilding my first jet pump on my ultra 150 and was trying to press in the new bearing in the pump housing. I was using a bearing driver and hammer and noticed the bearing was starting to go in crooked. Press the bearing back out and noticed a ridge of metal material that sheared and formed a lip halfway around the pump housing bearing seat. The bearing also got a little scuffed too.

Did I just destroy a $600 part?? Should I try to smooth the lip flat or just leave it and press through it? Should I use a pipe instead of a bearing driver the size of the outer race? Like a PVC pipe? Or should I try to use a hydraulic press? My buddy has one I can use.

I'm pretty pissed for feeling like I screwed up something simple...

You didn't help it any, but I don't think you did any serious damage to it.

I don't like hammering bearings in place, if I can possibly press them in. If you do hammer it, hammer gently rather than heavy blows.

    Looks fine to me

600 dollar part? No way maybe a 50 dollar used. I think i have 3-4 of those

    Always use a hydraulic press
