Seadoo 4tech carbon seal wear due to engine alignment
Info only-
Noticed low RPM vibration on the wife’s 2012 Seadoo GTI SE 130 since purchasing at hour 35. Other than that, runs great with zero issues. As I started learning more about these, observed that the rim of the carbon seal rotor appeared low relative to the carbon this winter. Also notice a steam of carbon lying on the inside of the hull.
Decided to pull this apart to change the carbon seal as a PM (now at hour 80). Had to cut the rotor off, removal tool would work. Then realized why, due to the driveshaft being worn just behind the area where the carbon seal is.
Then after disassembly found the drive shaft worn down about .100” and the ID of the carbon seal egg shaped. Checked engine alignment and it’s the obvious cause, with the engine sitting low by about 1/8 inch. Surprised it ran as well as it did, will reshim the engine. Posting pics
