    Cam Gears pre and post 2015



    Still Cant believe Yamaha wouldn't say they screwed up.

    when you make a major change like that, there is typically a pretty good reason for it.

    new gears and a new chain to go with it.

    either that or the mom and pop shop in Tokyo that made the gears and chains closed up shop and Yamaha had to switch to a new supplier

    I'd give it even money either way

    I was thinking the same thing, I thought lighter mass = less strain on motor, less parasitic loss and snappier motor.

    The 16+ chain is 1 link wider so I assume the wider cam gear is the new / upgraded one.

    It was "snappier" alright. Snapping narrow timing chains. As of Jan/1/2020 Yamaha is not paying for FREE replacement of the 2014 & 2015 engines due to timing chain breaking.

    man glad my 15 broke in December of 16 I got the upgrade new motor and it was 10k
