    1994 Polaris slt750

Hey everyone I just bought a 1994 Polaris slt750. I bought it without a battery but he showed me it started with a jumper pack. When I tried plugging in the negative terminal there was a pretty big spark. I still plugged it in anyways and I come out an hour later and the battery is completely dead. Does anyone know why this is happening

Is it a new battery. Or the battery the guy gave you with the ski? Some batteries will appear to take a charge, and show good initial voltage. But will drop off rather quickley after removed from the charger.. iwould start with a new ,fresh charged battery,,,and then go from there. Also while you are in there,,,give the terminals on the ski a nice scuff. To insure voltage transfer

You will need to do some diagnostics.

My first question would be, are you sure you did not connect the battery cables backwards (reverse polarity)?
Verify that the black battery cable is in fact connected to the battery negative post.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

If the battery went dead in an hour, you have a rather large parasitic drain. Charge you battery and try it again, see if you can figure out which electronic component is getting warm. If you have a clamp-on ammeter, (get one that measures DC) put that on the battery cable and start unplugging loads until the current drops. The skis are not that complex, so it should not take long to isolate the excess current draw to a suspect component.

The most likely ‘guess’ is the LR-21 voltage regulator module.

You can disconnect that module in the electrical box, then see if the battery discharge problem goes away.

Tip: Do not allow the metal shell of the electrical box to touch the metal posts of the battery. There should be a plastic cover over the battery.
