In my ski I carry a mirror, whistle. two flares, knife ,lighter and a hand held ham radio that transmits on Coast Guard frq. and boat to shore frq. The BaoFeng UV-5R 8 Watt High Power VHF UHF Dual Band $29.00 also a small paddle under the seat
The radio is the way to go, has a rang of about 85 miles with the repeater and be able to talk to other boaters if you want. With the repeaters interlocked I'm able to talk to people on the water two states over in Georgia.

    Take Care Seabrook
