    Hi,
I have a stupid question so don't kill my post, hahha. Well my ski was seating 1 week after last run. Yester. I checked oil on the stick was none, none! Well it is a new ski (waverunner 2018 vx 10hrs) so I couldn't understand that. I added 1/2 liter ran the engine for 5 sec. Waited 2min. to allow the oil to settle, checked the stick oil again, IT WAS OVER FULL on the stick almost to the cap. How come from empty oil + 1/2L overfull? So I drained that 1/2L back. Check it again 10 times, it was in the middle range. So question is how do you check the oil correctly? How come the oil was empty?
    cheers

I’m guessing it has a recovery tank that you’re checking the level from
And it can drain back into the sump from there when it is not being run

Which engine do you have? TR-1 three cylinder?

The owners manual should describe how to properly check oil level. For your engine model.

In the defense of people who dont know how to check the oil, I bet that they bought their ski used and did not come with a manual, most sellers don`t give them to the buyers. The seller just wants to get rid of the ski or the manual is lost. Wish I could help you out but, I not sure either.

Owners Manuals are often available for download directly from the manufacturer web site. Generally no charge for the PDF.

Often also available from other places via a web search.

Service Manuals are typically a pay-for product from the manufacturer. Available via the GH online store.

You need to run the engine for several minutes at trolling speed and then shut it off. Make sure the ski is fairly level if on a trailer. Also hook water up if running on a trailer, duh... Check the oil with the tank cap fully seated. Simple as that. I've never had an owners manual either.

    Hi,
yes three cylinders. I had it out over the weekend and checked the oil after, nice full level on the stick. I was comparing checking oil to a car. A car can be seating for long time and oil will be the same as after running. Ski different. I had several motorcycles and several vehicles but this was puzzling. I'm going to read the manual to see what they say.

    Hi,
so a jetski is very diff.than a car. Yamaha recommends to run the engine for 6 min. (why 6 min. not 4.5? or 3 min.) than screw the oil stick cap fully in than unscrew it and read the level.
    cheers

No SUMP........ most cars have a wet sump, MR-1 and TR-1 motors dont have a normal wet sump
