Went all out on the Yamaha FX

It's been a while since I have posted, but after 5 years of Jetski fishing, it was time for an upgrade to the big boys club....
Added 2nd Lowrance fishfinder, full blown VHF radio, 12 volt plug, and USB plugs .
    Cheers ...

Some more pics ... Upgraded tripleshot transducer, bluetooth paired speakers, vhf antenna, fuse box, custom made battery (approx 40 AH) (out of used 18650 laptop batteries) I only used a total of 1 volt (16.1 to 15.1) after 9 hours with all devices on full brightness, and vhf on ..Fresh coat of bedliner paint over the old rack .. Looks as good as new ...

Very impressed with the fixed VHF, I was picking up conversations from Catalina island, which is over 70 miles away from San Diego ... My old handheld never went beyond 10/15 miles ...

Cool rig and happy fishing !! However, this ^^^ in your post stuck out to me. Likely you already know this, so this is mainly for the fellow lurkers out there reading ...
{ assuming these are lithium batteries } - we all know lithium's greatly pose spontaneous fire risks Ė which can also be extremely hard to put out. Not just over-charging, but also over-discharging can equally destabilize the internal chemistry. Often, the laptops they were pulled out of are equipped with these circuit protections, guarding against overcharging, yet more importantly over-discharging. So it goes without saying, repurposing these outside a laptop might pose a real safety-hazard if equivalent circuit protects arenít maintained.
A decent off-the-shelf lithium charger can suffice for charging safeties, but a BMS (battery management system) (aka circuit board) is often desired when the battery pack is "in-use" as to provide for low-voltage disconnect.

I have powered this ski for over 5 years with the same type of batteries. The total draw of all the electronics is less than 3 amps continuous, and my entire days use is about 1 to 1.5 volts off the entire pack. (from 15.8 to about 14.5 volts).
The pack is never charged over 15.8 volts, and these batteries are easily capable of 5+ amps continuous, and I have tested many, and destroyed many to confirm.
Which means I can easily pull over 200 amps from this pack and it won't even budge.
And furthermore I have fused down each sub-pack to 5 amps, which at max is 1.2 amps per cell ...

So, I can very confidently say, there is nothing to worry about, as long as you know what you are doing ..
    Cheers ...
