2004 Kawasaki STX 15F Reverse Lever

In the process of rebuilding a 2004 Kawasaki STX 15F, finishing up the hull before dropping in the motor. However hit a snag, in the process of removing the reverse cable for what was thought to be a seized cable preventing the lever from switching to reverse. The cable has been disconnected and removed however the lever still won't budge. Im thinking it needs a rebuild on the lever however cant even get the plastic handle and lever off the shaft to remove the steering housing.

i removed the 12mm nut anything else i am missing?

If you rotate the handle up, there should be a tiny
Phillips head set screw that needs to be removed.

The phillips head is backed out just about all the way.

The issue is the lever wont rotate at all

The Phillips head screw just holds the cap on, the older models just had a snap-on cap that always fell off.

Did you disconnect the cable from the handle or from the reverse gate?

If you disconnected it at the lever, then try some penetrating oil on the handle & shaft. Then, but the nut most of the way back on and tap it with a brass drift.

Thats what i thought the screw did thats why its not completely out.
The reverse cable is disconnected on both ends with the intent of replacing the cable. I got to wiggle a but on the shaft as if it wants to start to come off but figured id ask before i went ahead and broke something I didnt need to haha. Penetrating oil was sprayed and left sitting overnight for now. Tried the tapping the nut with it mostly on already and nothing or at least nothing significant.

Thanks for the help will update tomorrow

Put a piece of wood or something else that soft between the handle and the cover, then tap it.

Just for the hell of it, I tried to take mine off. Like you, it wouldn't budge. Service manual states to remove the nut, then the handle. Haha... May need a small puller. It looks like a slip fit.
