    Battery Box for 1989 JS650

So I have a '89 650 that I've been working on getting back into riding condition for the past year. I finally got the motor back together and everything has been going good. How ever I got to reinstalling the battery box back into the hull and noticed that whoever worked on the ski prior to me has stripped out the screw holes and filled them with some kind of epoxy or resin and then set the screws in. Theres no way to screw it back in at this point. Any ideas on how to fix this issue? I was thinking of drilling out the hole and filling it with resin, wait for it to harden and then put a self drilling screw in. I also had an idea of putting some type of anchor in there so I can screw and unscrew it anytime I please. Any other ideas are appreciated and thanks for the help.

You've already be able to remove the screws, correct? If not, I'd try to heat them, then unscrew them.

I think threaded inserts would be a reasonable solution.

    Pictures would help!

I think rhass makes "ufo" mounts which are like little flanged nutserts made to be glassed in for motor mounts and the like. Check into them and see if they fit the bill.

Something else you might look at are Click Bond fasteners. Surfaces must be clean and smooth, but they really hold.

Hey guys! Thanks for the reply’s I opened the ski today and took some pics. It looks like the last owner of this ski striped the screw holes. Drilled them wider and glued the screws in. In the pics you’ll see the holes that are large are the ones messed up. The one small one is the only hole that is still good. I was thinking maybe just get a bigger screw? You tell me. Thank you.

You can get these brass threaded inserts similar to timeserts for just this kind of repair but the little boss area may be too small for the repair. If I think about it tomorrow I will try abd find one to take a picture of.
