How to Locate an Oil Leak?

Last winter I had my engine apart on my 2007 RXP to replace both oil pumps after a ceramic washer failure. Since then I have used the ski about 10 hours and is seems to have developed an oil leak in the last few of those hours. I am not sure when it started but I noticed the oil in the water so I am assuming it is leaking into the bilge. Before I start the search I was wondering if anyone has any tips on locating the source of the leak?

I figure the engine will have to come out for the repair but I sure would feel better if I knew for sure where the leak was before I pull it.

    Thank you for any suggestions.

Well I pulled some hoses so I could feel around under the motor but it seems like the oily beige water made a mess of everything. Cleaning up the mess as best I can now then plan to pack the bottom of the motor, obviously starting clear of the PTO, with clean white rags, run it for a bit then see if I can pinpoint the leak.

I had a leak that I was chasing for quite some time. It turned out to be the PTO seal that would would drip only with the engine running.

I've had good luck adding a dye to the oil and using a blacklight to identify where it's coming from.

Thanks for the suggestion, I forgot about dye.

I added dye plus cleaned and stuffed the hull with clean rags. The rags indicated the oil was from the PTO end but thatís about it. Got the black light out and got this photo. Click image for larger version.
