    Question 2011 ultra 260x

Hi guys first post in a while but Iím looking at a 2011 ultra260x has 39hrs on it but seller says the S/C belt
is off and he has never used it since he purchased it. Question is, why would a belt throw after 39hrs? Poor tension or lack of or never serviced? Would a tensioner crap
itself so soon? if the belt is still in good order and is still around the driveshaft would it be possible to loosen tensioner and refit belt to test/ start ski if the S/c spins and the tensioner puller turns freely? Or is it a ski I should avoid? He wants $5k for it and it seems immaculate to
look at but I know these skis can be a real headache if not serviced and looked after as I have the 2009 ultra 250x which has had its tantrums but all sorted now.

Unless you have first hand knowledge of this Skis history, I would say it's "mandatory" that you see it run. Even better, take it out for a quick test ride if that can be arranged. JB

Ultra 260 was only made in 2009 and 2010.

How long has it been sitting unused? I'm always leery about buying a ski that someone bought, but never rode. Usually, it's someone that got stuck with someone else's problem and now they are trying to pass the problem off to the next guy.

When I buy a ski that I can't test, I always assume the worst and price it accordingly. I would suggest that you factor in the possibility that the ski you are looking at has a cracked head, or a jet pump that let loose and trashed the crank, or a leaking intercooler, or any/all of the other common problems with this model.

i would stay away from the 250 / 260 and look for a 300x... much better ski... no gio, better sc, no fouled plugs.

If the belt is off than you can do a few simple tests. Check and see if the supercharger turns by hand in either direction even a bit. Also check and see how smoothly the tensioner spins. I would always check for crank play if the ski isn't running. It's easy to do:
If that's all good then it may be worth the gamble. Remember to do the pump bearing and shaft upgrades if you do get it. Head cracking is a gamble but I do believe it is preventable on these skis as long as the head is still good. Proper cooldown periods and rerouting that pump to head straight-shot water cooling line is a must in my opinion. However, as has been stated, there were no 260's made in 2011. 2010 was the last year
