2004 Kawasaki STX 15f hard start and bogs on acceleration

Hi. Just joined the forum. Found a lot of great information on here. I just bought a 2004 Kawasaki STX 15f not running. Long story short put a new fuel pump in it, changed plugs and oil. Drained all old gas, cleaned tank and fired it up. Still has extended crank before it will fire up and had it out on the water and when you hold throttle down it will rev up and go but on for a second before it hogs down and goes back to idle.. any ideas or advice would be appreciated

likely injectors are clogged, and the fuel filter too..esp if the gas was gummy

plenty of info here on dealing with those issues

    how many hours?

    and welcome aboard GH!

Has 150 hours. Sat for a couple years. And yes the fuel was all gummy and full of sludge. Injectors are brand new. Put them in after I got it started. Where is the fuel filter on it?? Also wanted to mention the fuel pump was out of it when I got it. I read on here about the Subaru imprezza pump working for this application, so I used that a d it is all wired up properly and works fine. My other though was if the fuel pressure regulator was bad. Will replace the filter tomorrow and see

with 150 hours you want to pull the jetpump for an inpection

or at least pull the tailcone to see what might come

    out rusty water=bad

remove the 4 10mm bolts by the front seat mount to get to the fuel filter

    wear goggles

Just noticed it sitting there tonight when I was looking at it. Gonna pop it out tomorrow and replace it. Any idea on an off the shelf filter thatll work, or will just any automotive filter suffice??

be advised that you can't just use "anything" . I always use OEM replacements due to my liability exposure

fuel injection systems run at high pressure and mistakes can be deadly or life changing

    just sayin

by the way, sage members of the forum advise that you solder the wires and use heat shrink tubing when replacing the fuel pump with an aftermarket. do not trust crimp connectors in a fuel tank-ever.

    keyword=deadly

I am an automotive mechanic. Well versed in cars, but new to get skis. I used all heat shrink connections and soldered female connectors going to the pump

So when you had the fuel pump out, did you clean ALL the crud out of the tank? I would assume that when you replaced the pump you also replaced the filter sock, right?

Yes sock was replaced and I cleaned the entire fuel tank out til there was not a spec of dirt in it

Might have to clean the new injectors due to crap in the fuel filter
