    2019 gp1800r or 2019 fx cruiser SVHO

Hey guys I知 new to the forum and I知 about to purchase my first ski. I知 debating between the two, I知 going to be riding mainly in the ocean as I知 in Miami and I知 hoping to do a trip from here to the Bahamas. Want to know which of the two is more reliable and which one has a more comfortable ride. Right now this is what the dealer is asking me for them. This price is with everything including the trailer.

    2019 Gp1800r $14,866

    2019 FX cruiser SVHO $15,187

Based on these prices which one would you guys recommend and why.

    Thanks for all the help.

The riding and area of riding you just described, I would get the FX for sure. I love my gp but if I were mainly ocean riding it would be the FX without a doubt.

prices do not matter. What matters is which hull is most appropriate. You want the best match to the riding conditions, the rider expectations, etc.

The Yamaha FX hull is going to be the most competent hull in rough water. The GP1800 hull (also used for VXR and Cruiser HO) is quite good, especially when configured for rough water, but I would expect the FX to be better. I have not yet ridden the new for 2019 FX.

The non-supercharged 1.8 liter engine is the most reliable engine. The SVHO 1.8 liter engine is also quite good, but the added supercharger hardware does affect the reliability statistics over time. My own two SVHO GP1800 each have over 200 hours with no issues.

The SVHO engine demands 91 octane premium gasoline while the HO engine works just fine with regular 87 octane. Fuel tanks are all the same capacity at 18.5 gallons. It is generally accepted that the HO models will travel farther on the same amount of fuel.

If you are new to personal watercraft I suggest finding some local riding groups. There is a lot to learn about PWC riding, of any brand. Riding with people that know what they are doing and are willing to help others can go a long way.

For example in rough water we riding standing up, with flexed legs, the majority of the time. I rode yesterday for five hours and sat down for maybe 30 minutes of that time. Flexed standing allows the hull to dance around under your feet while the upper body and head remain fairly stable.

For what you described...The FX. It’s also a much more capable machine too and n regards to options.

I have had 2 of each (2014 FX SVHO, 2018 FX SVHO, 2017 GP1800, 2018 GP1800) and will say they both are great skis and just as reliable as one another and both do excellent in rough water if setup correctly. The best way I can explain the difference is that the FX is more of a relaxed ride where the GP is always an aggressive race style ride. With what you explained, I would go for the FX. Do not buy a ski based on the price, otherwise, you will be out looking at the SeaDoo Spark.
