VX Cruiser HO grate and plate upgrade

Hi, I知 new here hoping to get some guidance. I purchased a 2019 gp1800 stock intake grate and ride plate to install on my 2017 vx cruis ho. I知 hoping to get a little more speed and better handling in chop. My question is, has anyone cut the grate and remove a fin to open it a little more? Is there any risk and/or gain? Any help is appreciated!

I wouldn稚 bother on an otherwise stock machine. You値l see no real gain and open it up for more debris. I put these on my modified 16 vxr and it seems to ride well.

Thanks for the advice. Did it add any performance when you installed it?

It just seems a bit restrictive and the same goes with my stock grate. Some other details, I did ribbon delete and TJ exhaust mod but that’s not enough to say it’s a modded ski. I figured the more restriction I can remove, the better. You have a good point on debris.

The ride plate is definitely a worthwhile add on. It may add a little speed but the handling and ride of the ski is so much better over stock. I have a riva grate on my GP 1800 and it also made a noticeable handling difference. I just added the same grate to my VXR but have yet to ride it to give a report.

You should gain about a mile an hour and way better tracking/stability.

That's about what I gained when I swapped the plate on my VXR. The difference in turn stability and rough water tracking are night and day from the factory plate.

I had a chance to run it today at lake Conroe and the results were better than expected. I consistently hit a top speed of 66 mph in a protected inlet with calm water. That’s the fastest it’s ever ran. After speed testing it, I ran it in the middle of the lake with what I consider heavy chop. It had a completely different ride to it. Normally I would be getting my ass kicked but I was almost staying dry! Very little cavitation which is unusual in these conditions. Needless to say, I’m very happy with it, especially for the price of the package
