2004 Seadoo GTX, Top speed 5 MPH?
Hi, yesterday I put my 2004 Seadoo GTX in the water for the first time in a year. It started up fine and sounded normal did a slow cruise (10 mph) for the first 5 minutes and the tried to accelerate but was topping out at about 35 MPH. I did not have the learning key in. Turned it off and tried to restart and it wouldnt start for about 10 minutes. Finally got it started and the engine sounded really bad at idle and then when I gave it a little gas it sounded normal. The werid thing was it was topping out at 5-8 MPH!!
What is going on!! Please help me with this werid problem. Thanks so much for your help!!

Sorry, I have never gotten my hands dirty with my ski so sorry the novice question BUT, doesnt the spark plugs just effect the engine starting and have no effect once its started? Also how would I test the battery and gas?

No offense or anything, but if you think spark plugs do that, you may want to read http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/techinf...s/techtips.asp . Edit: also, you can test the battery by taking it to a place like auto zone, they will test its ability to hold charge and load there. The gas, if the ski has been sitting for a while then the gas may be stale. How long ago was its last use before this one?

Thanks for the reply cyclone it was about a year. It had 1 bar left of gas and the critical battery light was on. I put about 7 gallons of new gas ontop of the little bit that was left.

Well now that we learn there was a low bat alarm then we know the voltage is most likely the problem. I said plugs gas AND battery because it has been sitting for so long and even after the battery is fixed there is good chance the plugs are fouled from bad gas and weak spark.
