    2004 RXP rebuild

After 15 years and 215 hours my 04 RXP finally dropped a valve.

Now on that I am tearing into it, I have some questions.

    1. What year head castings are interchangeable? I know the oil jet change in 06

    2. What are worthwhile upgrades while in the block? I plan on new valves and stronger springs of course.

    Thanks in advance!

Just curious, were they original valves on there. ?

Id upgrade the flywheel bolts while your in there. ARP is a good brand.

Well, your looking at Flywheel bolts as suggested
    Also a new timing chain
Supertech valves and springs along with titanium retainers.
Piston for the dropped one and rings on all 3
    All gaskets
All torque to yield bolts will have to be replaced (rocker and conrod bolts)
Was the supercharger rebuilt recently along with non ceramic clutches?
Your looking at over $2000 to redo it if the head is trashed, more if there is block damage., so unless the rest of the ski is perfect, determine if its worth it
Also, whiles your in there, new carbon seal and bellows and hat.
If it's on the stock intercooler, may want to have it checked for leaks as its 13 years old.

Yes, valves were original. I knew it would happen eventually. The ski is immaculate, maintained with XPS every month. Under the seat it looks brand new. At 200 hours and 14 years I figured all the wear items should be replaced.

While I have the block torn down, I was wondering what upgrades if any I should make. Should I rebuild it for more boost down the road, now is the time to harden the block. That’s where my head’s at with the question. So far valve springs and retainers are all I know for sure. I have read conflicting information on the oil jet.

Knowing the head head interchange will help determine how much a replacement is, there’s a jet ski grave yard with an 06 and 07 head in good shape.

Replacing all the sensors at this point is also a good idea. 15 years is a long time for sensors.

06 was a mid year change...the top of the valves have numbers on them..75 are good valves...the 72 are the bad ones...

Ok, I thought it was 07. I know the oil jet also changed at some point, so i’m not confident an 07 head is the same. I have a line on an 05 head casting though.

Thanks Sea Dood. So, I can run the following configuration?
    1. 04 block, oil jet removed, 07 head with 07 rocker shaft
    2. 04 block, oil jet in place, 07 head, 04 rocker shaft

I just went through rebuilt a 2004 RXP just like this. I went with the 20044 block, oil jet removed , and 2007 head. Works well so far.
