Do I need to prime the fuel filter during installation ?

I'm replacing my fuel filter on a 2000 Yamaha gp800. (photo attached ). Do I need to prime the fuel filter by pre-filling it with fuel ? because I'm having a hard time starting after installing the new filter. It looks like the filter is not filling up with fuel

No, you shouldn't have to. If it's having a hard time picking up fuel it may be time to rebuild carbs. How hard is it to start after it sets for a day? Or you may have a blockage in fuel line/selector valve.

Just looked at pic is that a realistic pic? I had troubles with all the glue seam type filters leaking air at the seam causing a fuel starvation issue running and fuel leak setting. I now only use the ones with metal compression band.Click image for larger version.
