GP1800, when dash wet does not start???? Anyone

Anyone heard about this? My friends 2017 GP1800 rolled over for a few seconds a few months ago. Now everytime the dash gets wet the engine would turn but does not start. If you disconect the dash it fires right up. If after engine is running you connect the dash again it shuts down. If you let the dash dry up for a few days will fire up again. Anyone??

    Thanks
    J

Never heard of that myself, yet I can logically see that being plausible, as the dash is just a node on the K-line (Yamaha data network - think ODBC II in vehicles). So the water might be taking-down (shorting-out) the entire data channel shared by the ECU and sensors.
Sounds like a new cluster is in order!

I wonder if putting the cluster into a large zip lock bag full of rice would absorb the moisture like it sometimes can bring a cell phone back. WAY cheaper than a new cluster!

Yes new cluster is most likely.

About the rice, the problem is that it will get wet everythime you ride or wash it. After that it has to be towed back.

Can you see the water inside, or could it be in the connector(s) area?

The best way is to re-flood it (yes you read that correctly) with isopropyl 91%, as this grabs the moisture trapped. Then drain the alcohol, and put into rice/dry. However, corrosion on the circuit board may have already started & just a matter of time.
    Also, I agree with jwaked.

I'd be going to dealer, even though out of warranty they or Yamaha should good will a warranty claim on it. That's their top tier ski!!!

Thanks guys. pretty sure new Dash will be at the end. Dealer sucks. Weird that it has not happened to anyone else.

Gp dash isn’t new.... can’t see how it getting wet would cause the ski to not start, check all the plugs on loom for water ingress and corrosion
