Spark plugs without torque wrench. How tight?

    New to all of this,
I have a 2000 Yamaha XL Limited and would like to change the plugs while at the cottage, no torque wrench. manual says 18lbs. would I be safe with a hand tight and then quarter turn?

    Thanks in advance.

So is that a new or used thumb-rule ?? Because most plugs employ a one-time crush-washer (gasket) which takes more turns initially.
