    1996 sea doo spi confusing me!!!!!

    hello everyone . I,m new to the pwc world. i bought the spi with the knowledge that it wasn't running right . the guy told me that he was out on the lake and it just died . would not crank ,beep or anything so i got it very cheap. got it home disconnected the battery and reconnected it and it beeped hit the start button and it fired right up!! yeeeaaa right ....wrong!! hooked up the water hose fired it up and turned water on and it idles great, half throttle runs great, full throttle for about 35 seconds and it just dies,kills all electrical and everything. I have to disconnect and reconnect the battery every time it does this like a reset but after i do that it its the same thing every time.Anyone have any ideas please!!!!!

    your engine controller isn't processing the signal that the engine is running (activity on the ignition trigger line) and shutting down. I'd wager there is an aftermarket ignition box in there, the OEM box has been discontinued for some time. I've seen this kind of fault on aftermarket dud controllers

    so the ski runs then dies and will not restart until you disconnect the battery.

    luckily aftermarket controller are inexpensive relative and not all that difficult to install

    most big vendors will carry them, expect from 150-250 depending which one you pick

    or you can roll the dice and try to find a used one for maybe half that
