Initial 10 hr tune, dealer or no? Costs
Is there any reason for me to have my dealer do my initial 10 hour tune? I can buy the oil, filter and plugs for $90. They want to charge $300 which is a $100 more than California dealers (Berts $200 and you can get a coupon for 15% off, 20% if you bought the craft there). Normally I have the dealer do the first tune and then I do it after, but dang too much. SMH
Just curious how much you all are paying.

Absolutely no reason as long as you keep your receipts and document you did it for warranty reasons. No need to change the plugs either.
You will end up saving about $250 - $275.00 depending on what oil and filter you purchase.

Man honestly I would do it I think it’s bs but Yamaha wants it done and I feel like not doing it will affect your warranty.

They need to know the required services have been completed as scheduled. It doesn't mean it has to be performed by Yamaha but you may need to prove it was performed in the event of a major warranty claim such as an engine failure.

Don't forget to hit the IB/mid-shaft house with a few hand-pumps marine-grade grease, as sadly there are still reports of these being under-greased from the factory.

Yes it is! When my timing chain busted they were looking up my information and the guy even said oh I see you did your 10 hr service, maybe he was just talking but the fact that he mentioned it makes me think Yamaha looks for that on a claim. Also I’d rather not have to prove that I did the service, that’s just a PITA

I like to do all my maintenance myself. I'm also planning on tuning the engine at 20 hours or so and doing the Riva Stage 1.5 kit. Are there any reports of issues with 2019 GPR's before that 20-40 hour mark? I did the break in by the book which sucked, but I feel better knowing I did it per the manual. If there aren't any known issues with the '19s that early on, there really isn't any reason to have the dealer do the first service vs me. If I do it myself, I'll do it here in a few hours, probably around 5 hours on it instead of 10 also. Thoughts?
