Ultra 150 - Stalling on hose after a few minutes of running

    New to Kawi PWC's.

Bought an Ultra 150 in non-running condition. The engine will run and then eventually bog and stall after a few mins.

Replaced Fuel Pump (not knowing there was no rebuild kit ahead of time), clean carbs ad rebuilt - they were spotless.

Pop-off checked and was at 18 psi

    Replaced oil lines

Found #3 cyl full of oil, drained it before cranking. The machine sat for years, so likely drained thru the cc oil feed.

Fired right up after install, but would still stall.

Checked Pissers, found rear 2 cylinders plugged somewhat. Cylinders were hot was the tip-off, though was was running thru.

Checked compression, from rear (I call cyl 3) at 105, mid at 110, front at 125 - Cold

Yanked cylinders, found nothing but nice bores and pistons. No flaking of the rings or any damage. #1 piston was coated in oil though.

Added extra oil to fuel for oil line replacement, but can't figure out what's missing here. Can reeds not sealing cause this (though I inspected them and found them to seat). Can rings lose tension and cause the stalling? Or can this be a pump issue, loading the engine down at idle or likely due to compression differential?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Eric

One of the pop-off valves for the oil lines may be stuck open, allowing the oil to flow into the engine while it's stored. Did you verify that the oil lines are going to the correct places? They go to specific points on that engine.

When you opened the carbs, did you pull the needle valve seats and inspect the screens? Did you replace the O-rings on the seats? Check the fuel rails for trash and replace those O-rings?

There are several mods you really need to consider doing to this 'Ski, but the first thing is to get it running.

    Steve,

    Thx for the Reply.

I'll verify the lines per the service manual. I replaced the oil lines one for one, knowing the concern about the correct line for each.

I pulled the check valves on the top of the case, they checked out good. Figure over years of storage that this can happen.
Went thru the carbs 100%, but had to go back to the origna needles and seats (the wsm kit was poping off at 35-40 psi and erratically). WSM springs were likely the issue, so went back to what was in there. Fuel screens looked good, clean.

Reeds were ok as well, not hanging open.

Plan on replacing the rings and touch honing the bores so seat them.

If I apply throttle, it will continue to run, but bogs.

Won't immediately refire, need to wait a few mins to get it to fire again.

Definitely not sticking pistons, like I would have guessed.

Steve knows this ski, but a thought popped in my head, so here I am. Have you checked the fuel return for blockages ?

    Honed cylinders and replaced rings.

Don't really think anything was really wrong, other than idle speed.

Cold, fresh cyls were 110 psi across. Started and did the same thing for a bit, adjusted idle to 2000 on the hose and purred like a kitten.

A buddy bought it, obviously knowing the history.
