Replaced my impeller now seems stiff
Can someone tell me how the drive shaft should feel to spin, outside of the ski? I've never replaced my impeller before and I've not taken note of how well the drive shaft spins on the pump. When i put everything back together and loaded new grease into the pump, it just seemed stiff to me. I was expecting it to spin freely. I wonder if I've over loaded the grease. it was real tight putting the cone back on with all that new grease. Will this loosen up while riding? Or, should I remove some grease. I don't want to remove grease if I don't have to.

I will have resistance. Will not free wheel easily. You should be fine.

Thanks for the reply. I was worried that much resistance would create friction heat. But, then again the surrounding water should cool the pump down in realtime.

Sounds like your bearings may be pushed into your seals. When you take the cone off again you will see the back end of the shaft with the nut. Bang the end of the shaft with the nut with moderate taps against the floor. This will reseat your seals and bearings where they should be and loosen up the spin of the prop. Had that happen once when I broke a solas tool and couldn’t get it out of the prop and was banging around on the shaft trying to get it out. Bearings got pushed into seals and that procedure fixed it.
