    2004 Sea-Doo GTX 4-Tec Starting issues

    Hello everyone

So my GTX will intermittently start and work fine. I replaced the starter relay after having to press the start key 5 or 6 times before it would start. Everything was working fine after that. Now sometime I will try to start and the motor turns 4 or 5ish times and then stops without starting or me taking my finger off the button. It will continuously do this and won't start at all. Then I come back the next day or a few hours later and it starts perfectly fine. It has done this twice now randomly. Any ideas or suggestions what could be wrong?

Remove the gas cap , next time to see if it helps, could be vapor locked, or even a fuel pressure issue. Have u tried a new set of plugs yet?

yes spark plugs are also brand new. I will try removing the fuel cap, to see if it helps. Wouldn't a fuel pressure issue be more constant instead of intermittently? Thanks

Sounds like a weak battery to me.

don't be so sure until you put a voltmeter on it. Before I went with strictly DEKA agm, I had a number of duds that looked good, but couldn't crank an engine for the 15 second test.

i'd venture you should check engine grounds and cable quality too...all know problems on older skis.

As nmpeter has indicated, check cables, connections, battery voltage while cranking.

Cables and grounds are good. I just got to looking at it today. Can get it running by giving gas but as soon as I let the throttle go it dies.

OK so let see if we understand. You push the start button and the engine turns over fine without starting. You add throttle and it starts fine but when you release the throttle it goes dead?
