    RPMs slightly down. What gives?

Long story short, I had (really) bad fuel in my '13 GTX Limited 260 (I bought it in 15 so it sat on the showroom floor a little while) at the start of this season. I ended up siphoning it out and putting in a full tank of fresh gas. I also put new plugs in. Ski ran great. I didn't check the RPMs digitally but it certainly felt normal.

2 weeks ago, my brother was in town and we all (my parents, brother, and brother's girlfriend) went riding. We all took turns riding the skis. I didn't get a whole lot of seat time on my ski but in the limited the time I was on it, it felt normal.

Fast forward to today, and I'm riding my ski, and went to do a shake down in a calm cove and it just wasn't pulling the same. It cranked right up to 65mph and was still pulling but on the digital display the most I saw was 7860RPM. Normally on a long WOT pull it'll just sit parked on the limiter at 8040RPM.

The ski runs about 90-95% as fast as it normally would. Anyone else probably wouldn't be able to tell a difference but I feel it and it's confirmed by the tach readings. Just seems weird to me it's such an incremental loss of performance.

Anyway - what should I look for first? With basically fresh fuel and plugs, I'm kind of at a loss. Ski has 81 hours on it and has more or less ran flawlessly up to this point.

Boost leak, leaking intercooler, slipping SC clutch are the starting points after fresh plugs.

First, inspect bottom of hull. Next, inspect pump/impeller.

You said the limiter on your ski is 8040 rpm. I have a 2011 RXT-260 and the manual says the limiter is 8300 rpm. I only mention it because if you think 8040 is the correct limiter setting for your ski you should have some extra rpm available with a shorter impeller and maybe a little better hole shot. So it seems like you are experiencing some kind of power limitation. SplishSplash and Tommygunner have covered most possibilities. The only thing I would add due to the history of bad gas might be a partially clogged injector.

    RPMs slightly down. What gives?

Drop of rpm’s and no alarms or faultcodes on a 2013 ski?

    Check your IC!

When water leaks in the charge air it slows down your engine.
Very very common issue on the earlier 260 models.

All 260 engines are limited at 8040 rpm (with stock ECU)

See Attached from SeaDoo manual. Are there a lot of errors like this in the manual?

Thanks for the replies so far guys. No warning lights at all. Being an iS ski doing engine bay checks won’t be easy. I think I can access the intercooler by removing the rear compartments, so I’ll give that a shot. I need to change oil anyway so I can do that while warming it up.

Don’t be suprised if water comes out. In hotter climates there can be a lot of condensation.
A pressure test is good way to verify.
If riding salt it’s easier to sea as it’s everywhere.....

Pull hose from IC to TB (throttlebody)

My manual says the same but this must be the hard limiter.

ECU will always regulate back to 8040.
And there’s also the speed and torque limiters.

I ran several different props with stock ECU and max (when stable WOT) was always 8040
