I think my bendix is busted...

Ski was running fine just a few weeks ago, now it just spins the starter motor.

I'll put a charger on the battery tomorrow am and let that sit a while and try it again.

I am able to spin the crank by hand.

If the bendix is stuck, is it usually a lube issue or do I have to take it out?

sometimes some lube can do the trick, but who wants to take that chance getting stuck on the water when it rears it's uncooperative head once again. replacements are inexpensive enough.

pull it and examine for starters(hahah)

I think I am going to finish getting the 4th ski built and into the water and then yank the one with the starter issue.

I looked and a freaking limb has broken one of the runners on my only empty trailer, so I need to get something off a trailer before I can get the busted starter ski in the workshop.

The other reason for this thought process is if the bendix ends up needing replacing I will need bench space and the 4th ski engine is there now.

    It's like herding cats!

Hopefully it just needs a lube. What I've seen is generally the garter spring breaks and then the bendix is done.

I thought the spring was the what caused the bendix to disengage when you let off the starter motor power?

Pretty sure you are correct. It's normally what fails when I see a damaged bendix
