    very stupid winch question

I have said a few times my Triton was delivered in really crappy condition but I needed the one I got that day so in reality it's my fault. Yesterday I replaced the winch straps because the ones on the trailer were in crappy shape from the dealership using the trailer as a storage wrack. I've had a couple of boats for about 5 years in the past and have never replaced a winch strap. When I replaced them yesterday I noticed both of the strap retaining bolts were really bent.

So the stupid question part, is that normal?

Unfortunately yes, it is normal. How much it is bent depends on how stressed the strap was in use.

I would install new straight bolts. Not expensive, one less thing to cause worry.

I think the stock bolts for the winch strap are plated/galvanized steel. If you can find stainless steel bolts, you can use them.

Using bolts is the manufacturer cheating out should really be a pin with bushing like a car door but they are expensive and bolts cheap.....
