2012 RXT - how to remove steering pad?

Anyone know how you remove the steering pad on a 2012 RXT? I got a new one in a different color and need to swap it out.

You take off the surround first, it's semi soft plastic and pops apart at the seam. The button covers will likely open when you do this. Then the pad comes out from behind that plastic handle bar cover, then you peel the cover off the styrofoam filler.

Do you have to remove the DESS post or can it just hang in the plastic piece during the process? And do I stick a screwdriver in these circled areas to pry the plastic surround off?Click image for larger version.
