    Gtr 230 carbon seal question ..look at pic

    Helping my neighbor change his oil on his daughters gtr 230 ..i noticed i can see the hat to the carbon seal ..is this normal? On my 300 it is covered by a rubber boot...

    Gtr 230 carbon seal question ..look at pic

    As normal as it gets wait till you see the 2019 models, just make sure he docent spray any XPS or any anticorrosive on the hat or the carbon ring itself .

    It doesn’t look tight to me. His motor may need to be moved back. The whole point of the boot is to prevent water being slung all over the engine bay and prevent stuff dripping on the ring.

    You’ll have to release the hat and check endplay to know for sure.

    My gtr 230 didn't look like that.

    RXTX and Gtx 300 both all look like this from factory due to a longer shaft at this section .

    Beside this (which is probably the cause),
    only other reason can be that the oil seal / bearing assembly is not properly pulled back after assembly or repair.
    The ‘tell tale’ line should be visible then on driveshaft.

    More info look in your workshop manual or search around for carbon and driveshaft failures 🤦♂️

    Again folks in the newer models with diff drive shafts this is common with the diff design drive shaft notice the oil seal groove is at the same location but the C Clip grove is in a diff location further back , that is why the boot docent reach all the way to cover the SS hat .Click image for larger version.
