Runs well only if the choke is out slightly

I have a 1996 Waverunner 3, it ran great last summer. This winter I rebuilt the carb. I took it out for a run this spring, the temperature was about 45 degrees and even after running it for a while I still needed to have the choke partially out for it to run well. I have never run the Waverunner in that cold of a temperature but I donít think that could be the reason I needed to have the choke pulled, any thoughts on this?

any time you add fuel with choke or primer it should Immediately fall on its face --When running correct ...
time to rebuild the carbs before you have to rebuild the motor.
remember fuel is used as coolant as well .
less fuel means lean conditions- 2 smokers love running lean right up till they Lockup from not enough coolant (gas/oil)

It could be lean because of the cold weather.

Group K has some great info on temperature affect, according to what I remember in the article - cold temp will create a lean condition. It was in a carb tuning article on the Group K site

That is what I am thinking. The air is really cold and dense so it is too lean, when I pull the choke it restricts the air and the fuel is richer and runs better.

I cant see ski's being that different , But I grew up running small 2-3 cyl outboards that we ran in 100 degree summer and then snow falling in winter and never had fuel/air mixture problems
