Pop Off Too Low on Stock 1200 PV (66V)?
When I rebuilt my carbs with genuine Mikuni kits, I replaced the bronze colored springs with the silver ones in the kit. When I tested pop off, the carbs were generally around 40psi (I didn't write it down, so I don't remember exactly where each carb popped off at).
I'm not following Osidebill's "recipe". I'm keeping everything stock. Stock Flame arrestor, stock airbox, etc.
Pilot Jets: 95
Main Jets: 117.5
Pop off: 40ish PSI
High Speed Adjuster: Stock settings
Low Speed Adjuster: Stock settings
Do I have pop off set too low? I've heard people talking about "loading up", and I think that's what I'm experiencing. Throttle response is not crisp.
Should I put the stock bronze colored springs back in? They popped off at over 70+psi
If not the stock springs, what should PSI should I be shooting for? I have the 95 pilot jets, not the 87.5.

Since you have a fatter jet now I would go back to stock springs. Sounds rich... clip a tad off and get 60s.
I wouldn't clip your stock springs, but the heavier ones in the kit you can experiment with.

The Oside Bill recipe works , these guys spent years getting it right with testing. Why question their experience? This engine format has not changed . Follow the recipe and the cakes turn out perfectly.

Because I'm not looking for performance. Just want to keep it (mostly) stock.

Put your stock springs back in. The high pop-off is correct for stock jetting.
The Oside recipe is not really for performance although you do get a slight gain from it - read the thread in the stickies, he explains the reasoning very clearly.

So I replaced the shiny silver springs that came in the rebuild kit with the stock bronze colored springs. I expected them to pop at 70+ psi, but they popped right at 50psi?? I don't understand that. I have the 1.2 N&S, so according to the chart, those should pop at 75psi.
I guess I need new 115 gram springs?
