GP1800R Stage 1 Results, RPM Too high?
Gp1800R Stage 1 AGR AGT 8500 tune, Ultimate CAI, Riva Cooling Mods, STOCK prop.
Did several passes today and seem to run around 8350 RPM, peaking 3X different times at 8630RPM @79.2MPH. Outside Air temp 62, water temp 58.
Couple questions...I was under the impression that 8500 tune would mean rev limiter set the 8500, which would prove my TTO inaccurate, but it seems to be the go-to for fine-tuning RPMS. Any suggestions?
2nd - If I actually am turning 8630 here and there, but consistently 8350 (which I don't think is possible), I have a 13/18 on it's way back from impros as we speak, that would put me in the danger zone (insert TopGun joke here), and I'd need to upgrade my retainers or jump up to a 13/20 correct?
Looking to the Yamaha guru's to point me in the right direction for this one! Thanks in advance.

Correct it is a Searon, i just assumed TT was a generic term for these. Is the Searon inaccurate for these applications?

DONT LOOK AT THE MAX RPM READING THAT DISPLAYS AFTER PULLS. You need to be looking at what the max rpm is reading WHILE you’re holding it WOT. I never found the max to be accurate on any of my TTO tachs but the live reading while holding wide open and looking at the tach was accurate.

my buddy just went 85.1 mph on his 2019 gpr this evening with the riva stage 1+ running lucky13 deans transom mod jims ride plate and a 13/20. he's 230 lbs. don't know what r/s couldn't get his tack to work...I say its a solid 84 mph ski.

This....Looking at max rpm could represent that possible moment in time that the pump was not loaded; consequently giving you a false (higher) number. I know a lot of guys run the Tiny Tach, but I will tell you hands down, the best money I have spent on my ski was the $170 PET tach. The level of accuracy is far superior to that of the TT.
