Thread: Wear ring...

    Wear ring...

    1996 gtx...installed new wear ring, no it wasn’t oem...still feels like a tranny slipping/cavitation. Any ideas!??

    What did you use to seal it ?

    What do I need to use? I didn’t see any seal on the parts diagram. I took it off installed wear ring and put it back on.

    There is a foam seal or just run a ring of clear silicone where the wear ring seals against plate,install pump let sit for 24 hours to cure.

    Better off with the foam seal. With silicone they can be biotch to get off next time.

    I used black RTV so it would blend in better to make a bead around the hull area and after it tacks up i reinstalled the pump housing. that effectively seals the pump to the hull.

    also what type of clearance does it have now? when i installed my OEM ring it rubbed very little so it was a tight fit but i also installed a new impeller.

    It rubs a little.. what do y’all think about the carbon seal ? Think I could slide the pot up and apply more pressure on the seal?

    If the bellows is not tight you can loosen the rear clamp and slide it forward a bit. But it really doesn't take much pressure to keep it sealed.

    Ok I have tried all of the above except a new impeller. It was a tight fit but had a few dings but nothing I would consider bad.
