2005 Polaris MSX150 Limited Anniversary Edition

Well I am the new owner of what would have been a 2005 Polaris model. Polaris only manufactured and sold watercrafts from 1992-2004. They were ramping up and already had the 2005 limne up sorted out. As Polaris dropped their Genesis and Virage hulls for 2005. It looked to be only an msx hull that year with essentially 3 different engine configurations for 05. The Matrix platform (2stroke 1200 triple pipe) the MSX 150 &110 (4 stroke 2 cylinder turbo charged) and the Icon and Elements (msx hulls w 800 single carb)

From my understand and I am going to try and get all the correct information. If someone has another story please correct me. But Polaris manufactured a few models for the Minnesota State fair to be on display and show off the new 05 models. The model that I have is the limited anniversary edition. Weeks after that Polaris announced the closing of the watercraft division.

I believe there was 1 maybe 2 models made in this color scheme with this anniversary graphics package and the Weber 4 strokes. Mine however has a 1200 DI inside of it.

So why is there a 1200 DI inside of what was supposed to be a Weber 4 stroke. Well that is what I am trying to figure out.

This is the previous owners story. I bought this machine in Minnesota. He believes he is the second owner. He says that the previous owner had two of these in the same color scheme and graphics. I guess the one I bought was originally red(which I can confirm from the scratches in the top deck) which would have been an 04 MSX 140. It is an 04 model w the stepped hull. And the vin says its a January of 04 build date. Previous owner said that the first owner just liked the look a lot better then the red so completely had it repainted blue and put 2005 graphics on it.

I believe this machine started out as a msx 140 in red. But I dont think it was just anyone that had this repainted and graphics installed as Polaris never even released this model. Let alone had replacement graphics sold to the public. I believe Polaris repainted this model and might have used this machine as a picture boat for the 2005 brochure as someone from the watercraft division suggested this. To me this makes sense.

So what happened to the other 1 or possibly 2 in this color combo w the Weber four strokes? I know at least one made it over to Italy to a shop or dealership called Maremoto Style. I also know one was destroyed with the top hacked off at that dealership. Ill post pictures of this soon. Not sure why they did this. Assume just for the Weber motor. And possibly the the other one is still in Minnesota. The previous owner said the guy had two. Maybe it will show up sometime or maybe a member on GH has it. Maybe the first owner worked for Polaris and registered them as 04s and made them his own. A few maybes.

In posts to come ill Ill talk about the condition of the ski. Which overall isnt bad for the year and knowing its a one off ski. But I enjoy the history of these one off Polaris machines. So any knowledge would be great if anyone knows something.

    Pics to come.

So this is a silver upper deck (painted over the production red) with a blue hood and blue plastic upper shroud, correct?

Is the blue plastic the same as previous year MSX blue? Is it painted color or molded in color?

What is the running hours count shown on the NGI display?

Has this thing been used or just stashed away?

Anything unusual about the engine configuration under the seat?

Part of me is wondering whether a brochure photo shoot repainted hull would bother to have an engine in it. Just easier to handle and move around an empty hull
Same for static display at a regional fair - if the seat is going to stay on.

That said, with a January 2004 build MSX 140 - easy enough for Polaris to just fetch one from production inventory and send it off for 2005 paint and decal work.

Can you post some clearer side photos of the hull model info side decals?

Not my machine. But this was the one in Italy. Not sure if the one in the picture with the mareMoto style banner in fromt of it and the one destroyed are the same or not. They are from the same shop.

But If you look close at the destroyed one the seats are slightly different.

It is a different blue than previous models.

    122 hours

a little bit of both. It was registered and is registered until the end of 2019. But sat for the past 2 years. It needs a thru hull. Want to go through it all though. Plenty of other skis to put on the water before I make this one right. Needs thru hull, part of the hull has a bad blemish in it,(not leaking) sounds like fuel pressure regulator reinforcement is a must. The one cylinder has lower compression than what I would want. But the thing fires right up.
Anything ‘unusual’ about the engine configuration under the seat?INot from initial look. New to these DI skis. First one. I know you are a guru at these DIs. Was hoping you would chime in. Thanks Keith.

Some of these shots were action shots. Perhaps the actual Weber machines were at demos or being presented to the public. Meanwhile Polaris needed to make a brochure. I’m not sure. Your guess is as good as mine. This is what I’m trying to find out.

    Exactly.
