    Loud whining noise

Pulled my ski out of the garage since storing at end of last season. Wanted to get it cleaned up and put up for sale.

As soon as I started it, it emitted a constant whining noise that was loudest at the rear, like it was coming from the impellor?

I killed it and hooked up the hose and restarted.....after running a little and some revs it sort of went away. But after disconnected the water and give it another quick start, the whine came back.

    It's pretty loud.

Of course this would happen when I finally decide to sell her.

Any suggestions on what the cause may be?

    thanks

The whining from the rear is normally going to be failed jet pump bearings.

Thanks. I did some looking around after I posted and that appears to be a majority of what I find.

I did realize I have a grease fitting that feeds to that general area....been a while since I greased it so may also try adding a little there and see if that helps.

    thanks

Adding grease will not correct worn bearings in the jet pump. If indeed the bearings are worn/failing, more grease is not a proper ‘fix’. Even if they seem to quiet down, imminent failure seems likely.

When next riding on the water at speed, if the jet pump bearings are failing, there is a real risk of sudden and complete bearing failure. The impeller may suddenly stop turning, throwing the rider against or over the handlebars. Mechanical damage to the driveline is also possible.
